Topic: “THE NATURE OF SIN”
Text: Genesis 3:1-7
Memory Verse: “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings” – Genesis 3:7.
In the beginning, God created man in His own image and after His likeness so that he could have dominion over all other creations of God. God provided the first man, Adam with everything needed for His survival in the garden of the Lord. He was given every seed-bearing plant and every fruit bearing trees for His food (Gen. 1:29). To crown it all, God normally came to the garden in the cool of the day to fellowship and commune with the man he had created. What a huge opportunity and privilege this was!
However, this relationship between God and Man was not sustained for long due to Man’s rebellion against God. In Genesis chapter three, the serpent (a symbol of the devil) came and deceived the man to eat the forbidden fruit which God asked them not to eat. This singular disobedience brought the nature of sin to man. Since then, the generation of man became sinners because of the nature of sin in man.
It became natural for man to commit sin not primarily because he wants to, but because of the nature of sin with which he is born. This is why it is very easy to commit sin. Man is not primarily a sinner because he commits sin, instead, he is a sinner because of the nature of sin inside of him. David had this understanding when he said: “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me” (Psalm 51:5).
The good news therefore is that, as soon as a person accepts Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior, the nature of sin is taken away and the nature of Christ is given. My friend, if you want to receive this new life, pray the following prayer.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I confess all my sins and repent of them today. I accept you into my life as my Lord and Saviour. Come in now and give me your own nature, Amen.
