APRIL 2: WALKING IN STEP WITH GOD WHEN THE PATH TURNS DARK

DATE: Thursday 2 April  2026
TOPIC: “WALKING IN STEP WITH GOD WHEN THE PATH TURNS DARK
TEXT: Genesis 37: 12 – 36

MEMORY VERSE: “Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.” “And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, and captain of the guard.” Genesis 37: 28 & 36

Yesterday, we reflected on God’s good thoughts toward you—His desire to bring you into an expected end just like He did for Joseph. The vision God revealed to him in his dream was beautiful and good.

Yet, the very first step in Joseph’s journey looked nothing like the dream God had shown him. Instead of rising into greatness, Joseph found himself sold as a slave, passed from one group of traders to another. His reality seemed completely opposite to the “prophecy spoken over his life”.

This raises questions many believers wrestle with: Why do difficult things happen to people who love God? Why do challenges arise right after God gives a promise? Scripture helps us understand that trials are not meant to destroy us but to test and strengthen our resolve in God. James 1:2 encourages us to count it all joy when we face various trials. Romans 5:3–5 reminds us that tribulations produce perseverance, character and hope—the very virtues God desires to be formed in us.

Perhaps the situation you are facing today looks nothing like what God promised. Maybe your current season feels like a desert—dry, confusing and far from the dream. This is the moment to trust God even more deeply and not look for alternatives in the fulfilment of the promise. He is not a man that He should lie; He is able to bring to pass what He has spoken (Numbers 23:19). His promises remain sure and every difficult season is temporary.

Take comfort in Romans 8:18. What you are going through is not the end of your story. Like he did for Joseph, God is shaping you, strengthening you and preparing you for the glory ahead.

PRAYER: Lord, thank you for guiding me on my journey and for the hope that our challenges will shape our character to be more like yours. Grant me grace so that I do not grow weary; let joy fill my heart and give me strength each day, Amen.
