TOPIC: “LESSONS FROM RUTH”
TEXT: Ruth 3:5-11; Proverbs 31:10-11 & 30-31
MEMORY VERSE: “…my daughter, I will do what is necessary, for everybody in town knows you are a virtuous woman” – Ruth 3:11.
Ruth belonged and showed us what Paul described as a “true widow”, (1 Tim 5:3 & 14). The state of her inner beauty and righteousness was attested to by Boaz as qualifying her as a virtuous woman, who never succumbed to ephemeral means despite her status as a widow (Ruth 3:10).
Second, she showed by her actions a tradition of redemption, which will later be a divine strategy of “rescue” from sin and eternal condemnation. Hear her, “spread the corner of your covering over me, for you are my family redeemer” (Ruth 3:9). We see the culture of redemption too, in Jeremiah 32:7-8; beyond this, our Saviour Jesus Christ is our redeemer, our refuge under whose wings we dwell in safety and He alone purchased our eternal redemption (Heb. 9:12; 1 Cor. 1:30) and so, is our Redeemer (Isa. 49:26; 60:16).
Lastly, by her lifestyle, we saw obedience; doing “everything” her mother-in-law commanded her (Ruth 3:5) even when she did not understand the culture of Israel as a foreigner, alien to the covenant. She taught believers, that obedience to God supersedes religious actions (1 Sam 15:22-23; Prov. 21:3 & Hosea 6:6), no matter how well intended our fleshy thoughts are.
PRAYER: Lord, in my lowly estate, help me to say like Ruth; I will do everything you say; in Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
