Topic: “TEMPTATION: DEVIL’S TOOL”
Text: James 1:13-15
Memory Verse: “When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me”. For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone” – James 1:13.
Temptation is an enticement towards sin leading to a deliberate act of evil against God. This is the age-long strategy of the devil. He uses this tool to destroy anyone who is on a journey to a glorious destination in life and ministry. Peter in his epistles to believers warns us to be sober and vigilant because of our adversary, the devil who walks around as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. For this reason, anyone who desires to live a glorious life in purpose and destiny must be careful and watchful not to fall into devil’s trap.
Apostle James in our text this morning gives us a revelation about the source of every temptation. He first of all established the fact that God is never an author any temptation because He does not tempt anyone to do evil. He says: Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away (James 1:14). This is a very striking and eye-opening scripture. It means that an unchecked and unrestricted desire locked up in the heart of man is actually what entices believers to commit sin. It means no one can really be tempted beyond the evil desire of his heart. This is the precarious situation of many believers these days.
Beloved, have you been entangled in the web of pornography, masturbation, drug, and smoking, to mention a few? According to vs. 15, these desires if not uprooted will lead to sin and sin to death. To this end, I want to charge you to allow God complete an evacuation of these sinful desires from your heart.
PRAYER: Lord, completely evacuate every evil desire that is locked up in my heart. Give me a new heart O Lord, Amen.
