Topic: “THE LUST OF THE FLESH”
Text: Genesis 3:1-6
Memory Verse: “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat” – Genesis 3:6.
There are three (3) things with which the devil tempts believers. They are:the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. Today, we shall begin to consider the first one which is the lust of the flesh. Concise Oxford English dictionary has defined “Lust” as a strong and passionate desire for something. It also means a sensuous appetite for something sinful. The Lust of the flesh therefore can be said to mean having a strong and passionate desire for anything sinful in order to gratify the desire of the flesh.
In our text for today, Adam and Eve fell into the devil’s trap when Eve lusted after the fruit of disobedience from which God warned them not to eat. The bible says: “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food…” Genesis 3:6. Our first parents allowed the desire of the flesh to overwhelm them into disobeying the clear instruction of God and they suffered the consequence of being driven away from the Garden of Eden. This is an age-long strategy of the devil and unfortunately, many believers of our time have been trapped and are being trapped by the subtlety of the adversary. The lust for women, money, cars, houses, status and the mundane things of this world have taken several believers away from God.
Beloved, where are you? Have you been lured away from your maker because of your strong desire to pursue the glory of the world? Are you now pursuing all kinds of women to gratify the desire of your sinful nature? Today is your day of salvation. God is calling you back to him this morning and if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart.
PRAYER: Confess your sins to God and ask Him to give you a new beginning.
