TOPIC: “WALKING IN STEP WITH GOD THROUGH EVERYDAY OBEDIENCE”
TEXT: Genesis 39: 6 – 9
MEMORY VERSE: “So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.” “But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “My master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care.” – Genesis 39: 6 & 8
As Joseph continued walking in step with God, something remarkable happened. He was no longer just a slave; Potiphar began to recognize the unmistakable hand of God upon his life. Joseph’s consistent obedience and godly disposition positioned him for greater responsibility.
One of the first attitudes we see in Joseph is faithfulness. He showed up every day, regardless of how belittling or unfair his situation seemed compared to the dream God had shown him. He had every reason to withdraw, complain, or give half-hearted effort, yet he remained diligent. Scripture says Potiphar noticed that everything Joseph touched succeeded. His faithfulness opened the door to promotion—he was placed in charge of everything.
Jesus teaches the same principle: “He who is faithful in little will be faithful in much.” (Luke 16:10). Faithfulness is not about perfect conditions; it is about showing up with integrity, day after day. God Himself is faithful and He desires to see that same character reflected in us.
Another attitude Joseph displayed was remembrance and gratitude. In Genesis 39:8, he recounts the favour his master had shown him. He did not take that favour lightly. Gratitude kept his heart humble and aligned with God’s purpose, even in an unpleasant environment. When we pause to reflect, we often discover that—even in difficult seasons—God’s hand has been present in ways we may have overlooked.
Today, as you continue walking with God, take time to reflect on your attitude. Are you faithful? Are you grateful? These dispositions prepare you for the next step in God’s journey for your life.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to walk in obedience with You every day. Grant me the grace to be faithful even in the little things. Help me to reflect in gratitude even when the conditions are not palatable in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
