TOPIC: “WALKING ALERT AND RESOLUTE WITH GOD”
TEXT: Genesis 39: 7 – 16
MEMORY VERSE: “And so it was that she spoke to Joseph [persistently] day after day, but he did not listen to her [plea] to lie beside her or be with her.” – Genesis 39:10
Potiphar’s wife did not give up after one attempt. Day after day, she continued to lure Joseph, hoping he would eventually yield. This reveals a spiritual truth: the enemy rarely retreats simply because you resisted once. He lurks, watches, and returns—often with more subtlety and persistence. This is why steadfastness is essential in our walk with God.
Overcoming temptation yesterday does not guarantee immunity today. Temptations may return in new forms, stronger waves, or more appealing disguises. This is why we must remain resolute, committed to honoring God and anchored in reverence for Him. Apostle Peter warns us in 1 Peter 5:8–9 to stay alert and watchful because the enemy seeks to wear believers down through relentless pressure. He urges us to take a decisive stand and resist with strong, vigorous faith.
Today’s text also highlights something subtle: Potiphar’s wife pleaded with Joseph. She begged him. Sometimes temptation comes wrapped in emotional pressure—someone appealing to your sympathy, loyalty, or desire to “help.” Do not yield simply because someone is begging you or because you want to appear kind. Compromise is never kindness when it leads you away from God.
Stay resolute. The victory has already been secured in Christ. Your part is to stand firm, remain watchful and keep walking in step with God.
PRAYER: Father, help me to watch and pray just as Jesus admonished while on earth. Give me the grace to not take decisions through the lens of my own eyes. Help me to identify and not be ignorant of the subtle devices of the enemy in leading me astray, Amen.
