Topic: WORDS SEASONED WITH GRACE
Text: COLOSSIANS 4:6
Memory Verse: Col 4:6 – “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man”.
Believers in Christ Jesus are God’s representatives on earth. This was established in the epistle of Paul to the Corinthian believers when he said, “We are ambassadors for Christ” 2 Cor. 5:20. The expectation of God over every believer is to live and pattern his life according to that of Christ in everything. The Disciples fulfilled this and were called “Christians” in Antioch. The unbelievers in Antioch studied them for one year and noticed a striking resemblance in their lives and that of Christ. This made them to conclude that they were Christians (Little Christs).
Meanwhile, one of the areas where believers are expected to be like Christ is in the way they speak. Paul the Apostle in his catalogue of instructions to the Colossian believers charged them to “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man”. Colossians 4:6. Paul here was laying a template of how believers’ words should be. They must be words full of grace and seasoned with salt. The resultant effect is that believers will know how to answer every man. The Apostle emphasized the same thing while writing to the Church in Ephesus when he said, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers”. Ephesians 4:29. This is how we are to live.
Beloved, what kind of words do you normally speak to your spouse, children, colleagues at work and employees? Are they corrupt and unwholesome words or words that are full of grace and seasoned with salt? If you are guilty of this, bow your head and confess your sins.
PRAYER: Consecrate your mouth and words to God and ask Him to take control from this day forward.
