Topic: THE WORD OF HIS GRACE
Text: ACTS 20:32
Memory Verse: And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified” – Acts 20:32
The word of God is the word of grace. Embedded inside it is the grace of God. Each time the word of God is spoken, the grace of God is imparted. Therefore, the word of God can be referred to as the word of grace. This word is a powerful instrument in the hand of God for changing, transforming and conforming believers unto Christ-likeness.
Apostle Paul in our text today had labored for 3years in the Church at Ephesus, imparting the grace of God to them through the teaching of God’s word. Now he was ready to leave for Jerusalem and he began to give the church his farewell messages. After a brief narration of His exploits among them, he committed them “unto God and to the word of His grace which is able to build them up and to give them inheritance among them that are sanctified” Acts. 20:32.
Paul emphasized two functional features of God’s word in this verse: to build up and to give inheritance. Paul knew that the only thing that could sustain the Ephesian believers was the word of His grace. The word would help them to be built into the stature of the measure of Christ Jesus and would afford them the opportunity of laying hold on their inheritance in this new life. The implication of this is that the extent, to which they were committed to the word of God, was very extent they would be able to grow and lay hold upon their inheritance in Christ Jesus.
Friend, this is a very striking challenge to me. The only provision that God has made for our growth and our inheritance is the word of God. How committed and consistent are you to the study of the scriptures? If your answer is negative, I challenge you this day to re-ignite your passion and commitment to God’s word and it will make a world of difference.
PRAYER: Father, increase my appetite for your word. Help me to spend time in studying, meditating and applying it to my life.
