APRIL 8: “THE FALLEN HERO: REUBEN”

According to the dictionary, a Hero is a being of great strength and courage celebrated for bold exploits. The desire of God for any man who has come to the saving knowledge of Christ Jesus is to live for His glory and become a great hero in His kingdom. However, if a man who has been destined for greatness fails to overcome sin, such will jeopardize the glorious future that God has for him.

Reuben was a typical example in our text today. Jacob, his father had twelve children and by divine providence, he happened to be the first-born son. As the first-born of Jacob, he carried the patriarchal blessings in his lineage. Even Jacob testified in Verse 3 of the dimension of grace this man was carried simply by the reason of being the first born. “Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity and the excellency of power”. This man was a man of might, beginning of strength, Excellency of dignity and power. What a tremendous grace! Unfortunately, sin would not allow this man to accomplish the apex of God’s purpose for His life. He slept with his father’s concubine and that cost him his future. Sin finished him before he could reach the platform of divine eminence.

My friend, permit me to warn you that sin is a sinker of glory and destiny. It has wreaked untold havoc against several promising destinies. It is a silent killer of destiny and purpose with many grievous and devastating consequences. Any man who carries an enviable destiny in life must fly away as far as possible from every appearance of sin. Beloved, what kind of sin are you indulging in? Is it fornication, adultery, murder, stealing, etc. Come to Jesus and He will deliver you.

PRAYER: Confess your sins to God and repent of them. Ask Him to give you a new beginning.
