Topic: “THE PRIDE OF LIFE”

Text:

Genesis 3:1-6

Memory Verse: “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat” – Genesis 3:6.

Having considered the two dimensions of temptations, we shall be rounding of today by considering the last dimension which is the Pride of life. The Pride of life has to do with the enticement of the devil to seek or pursue the beauties, the cares and the glories of this world in such a way as to disobey God.

Again, as we check Genesis chapter three. We see this third dimension of temptation coming to play. The Bible says: “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, anda tree to be desired to make one wise…”Genesis 3:6. A tree desired to make one wise. This is the picture of the pride of life. The devil deceived Adam and Eve that eating the forbidden fruit of sin will make them wise. Is this different from the deception of the devil in our time? Several people are pursuing the glory of this present world at the expense of their eternity. We live in a time when many believers are trading their faith for mundane and ephemeral things of this world. Many have even sold their heart to the devil because of the pride of life.

Beloved of Christ, what exactly are you pursuing? Are they things that have bearing with eternity? Or they are only the goods that will perish with this present world? Remember the words of Apostle John: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever”. 1 John 2:15-17.

PRAYER: Father, I give up every pursuit that lacks eternal value. I receive grace this morning to pursue things that have bearing with eternity in Jesus’ name, Amen.
