APRIL 9: “TRUSTING GOD’S TIMING WHEN EXPECTATIONS FAIL”

After interpreting the cupbearer’s dream and giving him the assurance of restoration, Joseph made a simple request: “Remember me… mention me to Pharaoh.” (Genesis 40:14–15). It was a reasonable expectation as Joseph was unlawfully sold to slavery and is now in prison for a crime he did not commit. Joseph had used his God‑given gift to bring clarity and hope to the cupbearer. Yet when the cupbearer was restored, he completely forgot Joseph.

This moment highlights a reality we all face: human beings, even with the best intentions, are limited. People may promise to help, support, or speak for us, but they can forget, become distracted, or simply be unable to fulfil what they intended. This is why our hope must never rest on human promises. People are fallible, but God is faithful.

Joseph remained in prison for two more years after this disappointment. Yet Scripture gives no indication that he became bitter or resentful. He did not allow the cupbearer’s forgetfulness to poison his heart. He did not complain about how his gift had helped someone who did not return the favour. He did not withdraw or stop serving. Instead, Joseph continued to take each day as it came, remaining consistent in his responsibilities and steadfast in his walk with God.

Your attitude in seasons of waiting is crucial. Waiting can test the heart more deeply than hardship. It reveals where your hope truly lies. Joseph kept his hope anchored in God, not in the cupbearer’s memory. He trusted that his destiny was in God’s hands, not in the hands of any man.

When people forget you, God remembers. When promises fail, God’s purpose stands firm. When help delays, God is still working behind the scenes.

Anchor your hope in Him. He never forgets.

PRAYER: God, help me to put my trust in you. Guide me in the season of waiting not to be bitter, anxious or disappointed. Help me to keep faith burning and alive even through the desert season, Amen.
