AUGUST 19: “ PRETENDING TO BE WHAT YOU ARE NOT”

DATE: Wednesday 19 August  2026

TOPIC:  “PRETENDING TO BE WHAT YOU ARE NOT”

TEXT: Ephesians 4:25

MEMORY VERSE:  “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbour, for we are all members of one body” – Ephesians 4:25

Many people wear masks without realizing it. We pretend to be stronger than we are, happier than we are, or more confident than we are. Sometimes we hide our true selves to gain approval, avoid rejection, or fit in.

Pretending can be exhausting.

You may agree with others even when it violates your values. You may smile outwardly while struggling inwardly. You may act flawless in public while hurting in private.

God never called you to perform. He called you to walk in truth.

Ephesians 4:25 tells us to put away falsehood and speak truthfully. Real relationships are built on honesty, not image management. If people only know your mask, they cannot truly know you.

God desires authentic community, people who walk in love, truth and mutual care.

You do not need to impress God. He already sees you fully and loves you deeply.

Today’s Reflection:
Where are you pretending instead of living honestly?

Today’s Action:
Take one small step toward authenticity today. Be honest with a trusted person or with God.

PRAYER: Lord, remove every false mask from my life. Help me to live truthfully, humbly and freely. Teach me to find my worth in You, not in appearances, Amen.
