Topic: “THE NAME THAT SAVES”

Text: Matthew 12:18-21; Acts 2:21

Memory Verse: “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” – Acts 2:21

The name of Jesus did not only identify him as the son of Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem, it also had in it, the whole mission that God sent him to carry out on earth. He came to save humanity from sin and deliver us from eternal damnation. Jesus did not come to the world only to shield us from the terrible consequences of sin here on earth, but also to hide us from Satan whose mission is to continue to torture us with all manner of afflictions and to ultimately lead us with him to hell. However, the name of Jesus tells us of the love of God for us and reminds us of the provision God has made for our salvation. This is why Peter’s message on the day of Pentecost, according to Acts 2:21, gave all the people who had gathered to listen to him that open invitation that whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved from sin and its consequences. He presented the name of Jesus as the only way to everlasting life.

Prophet Isaiah had spoken of Jesus when the Lord revealed it to him that in His name shall the Gentiles put their trust, suggesting that both Jews and Gentiles would find salvation only in the name of Jesus. This is the greatest safety that everyone should seek – to be safe from eternal damnation; and it is only accessible through the name of Jesus.

As you meditate on these words, make haste to examine your life to be sure you have taken refuge in that wonderful name. No other name has been given among men in heaven and on earth by which you may be saved – see Acts 4:12; John 14:6. Take this to heart and get out there to as many people as you can find and passionately share this redemptive truth with them in order to help them come into salvation through the name of Jesus – the name that saves. Please save yourself and others.

Prayer: Lord, give me some lost souls today and help me to point them to the name of Jesus for salvation and deliverance from the power of sin and Satan. Amen.
