August 5: MAKE ROOM FOR GOD: GATES I

Gates are essentially control posts of authority to permit or prevent entry or exit and necessary to be guarded. They could be gates to hold captives in captivity. Gates are also representative of upholding, denying or negating a state of freedom.

2 Chronicles 18:9 established that the Council of State was held at a gate hence, it is a place of decision making and a place of governance. It is the place where agreement is sealed and destiny determined before witnesses and a base of the King’s seat to pass judgement. The gate of life is therefore very important to who we are, for he who has rule at the gate of our life is in charge of the person. The gate of our heart is our Spirit man – The mind! It is the place where it is first settled if we are of God or of the devil.

We are advised in Deut 10:16 circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart and be no more stiff necked. It is further advised in Deut 11:18 therefore lay up these words in your heart and in your soul. James 1:14-15 explains that we lose the battle of the heart, indeed, the mind when we are drawn away first by lust. When we give in to the satisfaction of our cravings and the lust of the flesh, we give control of the gate of our lives to the devil. As stated, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the lust of life, is not of the father but of the world!

We however can win this battle if we walk in the Spirit! Gal 5:16 invites us to “Walk in the Spirit and we would not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Romans 8:13. While Eph 4:27 instructs, “Neither give room to the Devil!”

If we can only “Make room for the Lord” in our hearts He will send His Spirit that would help us to win the battle of the mind which is the gate of our life. If we give Him control by earnestly seeking Him, surrendering our struggles in prayer, practice silence before Him and seeking undisturbed solitude with Him – decluttering internally and externally, to be with the Lord. If we meditate on God’s words and His world, asking Him to take charge of the gates of our hearts and inviting Him to seat on the podium to adjudicate in all our affairs He will guard our gates against all evil. Remember! He stands at the door and knocks, if you would hear His voice today and open the door, He promises to come in and will stay! Invite Him afresh today and you will have peace!
Prayers: Lord, come into my heart, Lord Jesus! Come in today and come in stay! I need you as the King of my life and please seat at the throne of my heart to adjudicate. Be in control by your Spirt O Lord! In Jesus matchless name I pray! Amen
