TOPIC: “WHEN HURT BECOMES RESISTANCE TO GRACE”
TEXT: Romans 12:2
MEMORY VERSE: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” – Romans 12:2.
Scripture presents transformation as a renewal of the mind. This indicates that alignment with God is not only about external obedience, but also internal reprogramming of thought patterns shaped by truth.
When the mind is not renewed by God’s Word, past experiences can begin to shape the perception of God, self and others. This is where emotional pain, if not surrendered, can become resistance to grace.
There is a danger when a person begins to interpret life primarily through unresolved hurt. Over time, what was once an emotional wound can develop into a settled mindset that resists healing, truth and divine perspective.
This can even lead to distorted conclusions about God’s character. Instead of seeing Him through the lens of His Word, the heart begins to interpret Him through unanswered pain.
There is the story of a man who, after losing his mother during a difficult season of life, never processed his grief before God. Over time, his pain became internal resistance. He eventually developed a worldview that excluded God, strongly opposing faith and influencing others in the same direction. Later, it became evident that beneath his intellectual arguments was a heart still carrying unresolved grief and unhealed offense toward God.
This shows that when the heart is not aligned with God in healing, pain can quietly become resistance to grace.
True alignment with God requires not only believing His truth, but allowing His truth to heal and renew every wounded area of the mind.
Application
Examine your thoughts honestly. Are there areas where past experiences are shaping how you see God or respond to His Word? Surrender those areas for renewal. Do not allow pain to become a lens through which you interpret God.
PRAYER: Father, I submit my mind to the renewing power of Your Word. Heal every area where pain has created resistance within me. Realign my thoughts with Your truth and restore my full trust in You, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
