AUGUST 7: “RECEIVING GRACE BUT STRUGGLING TO EXTEND IT ”

DATE: Friday  7 August  2026

TOPIC:  “RECEIVING GRACE BUT STRUGGLING TO EXTEND IT “

TEXT: Matthew 6:14–15

MEMORY VERSE:  “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men… neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” – Matt 6:14-15.

Forgiveness in Scripture is presented as both a gift received and a responsibility extended. Jesus makes a direct connection between how we treat others and how we experience the mercy of God.

This reveals that alignment with God is not only vertical (towards God), but also horizontal (towards others). A disconnect in either dimension affects spiritual flow.

Many believers receive the grace of God gladly, but struggle to extend the same grace to others who have offended them. Yet, in the teaching of Jesus, this creates an internal contradiction in the life of a believer.

Forgiveness is not based on the worthiness of the offender, but on the reality of having received undeserved mercy from God. The refusal to forgive, therefore, is not merely an emotional issue; it becomes a spiritual misalignment with the nature of God’s kingdom.

There is a divine expectation that those who have been forgiven must also become channels of forgiveness. This does not deny the reality of hurt, but it places grace above personal injury.

Alignment with God requires consistency between what we receive from Him and what we extend to others.

Application
Reflect today: Am I extending to others the same grace I continually receive from God? Ask the Holy Spirit to realign your heart where there is resistance to forgiving others fully.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for Your mercy and forgiveness toward me in Christ. Help me not to receive grace without extending it. Heal every area of my heart that resists forgiveness and align me fully with Your nature, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
