DECEMBER 08: “HE EMPTIED HIMSELF”

DECEMBER  08, 2025

Topic:  “HE EMPTIED HIMSELF

Text: Philippians 2:1-7

Memory Verse:  Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men” Philippians 2:5-7

We live in a world where position, power, rights and privileges are seen as what define us, so we cling to them as though our lives depend on them. The Incarnation is a story of the descent of God. Jesus did not cling to the privileges of divinity, instead, He “emptied Himself”. He did not lose His divinity, He is fully God and fully man, but by laying aside His heavenly glory and choosing to live within human limitations, the King became a servant. The eternal Word became a crying infant, just to save a sinful and dying world.

Christ chose to become like us so that we can also choose to become like Him. This was not weakness; it was love. He humbled Himself and stooped to lift us up. He entered our world, our pain, our frailty, not from a distance, but from the inside out.

What would the world be like if we embraced this same mindset, the mind of Christ, and live lives of humble service?

Identify one area where you can practice humility or sacrificial service this week. Reflect on how Jesus gave up His rights for your good and ask what you might need to release for the good of another person.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I am in awe of Your humility. Thank You for choosing to step down from glory to save me. Teach me to walk in Your footsteps to serve, to love, and to lower myself so others might be lifted, in Your name, Amen.
