Topic: HIS ESCAPE TO EGYPT
Text: Matt 2:13-18
Memory Verse: “… And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet, out of Egypt I called my son” Matthew 2:15b
The Sovereign Lord knew very well the evil intention of King Herod. That he was going to order for the killing of innocent babies, and that if infant Jesus was not taken away, he would be a victim. Therefore, He instructed his father Joseph to take Mary and the Baby away to Egypt. This was to fulfill a specific prophecy of Hosea.
“When Israel was a child, I loved him and I called my son out of Egypt” – Hosea 11:1. The exact context was that God was lamenting over the backsliding of Israel. He referred to the Love he shows in bringing Israel out of Captivity in Egypt. This was pure history that Hosea was inspired to recount with the aim of persuading Israel to come back to God. However, hidden in this was another expression of God to another son of his in the person on Jesus Christ who must escape death by going to fulfill this prophecy of Hosea.
Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to see your promises fully in the scripture. Thank you for your love to me. I know you will bring me out of the dangers around me.
