Topic: HIS FORERUNNER
Text: Mark 1:1-8, Matt 3:1-3
Memory Verse: “As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: I will send my messenger ahead of you who will prepare your way – a voice of the one calling in the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord, Make straight paths for Him”. Mark 1:2-3
Mark began his account of Jesus with the introduction of John the Baptist. That John the Baptist was the person God promised would go to prepare the way for Jesus Christ. He was to be Jesus’ forerunner. John in his prophetic and priestly ministry called people to repentance in preparation for the manifestation of Jesus Christ. He kept answering, “Someone is coming soon who is greater than I am. So much greater that I am not even worthy to stoop down like a slave and untie the straps of his sandals… He baptizes you with the Holy Spirit.” – Mk 1:7-8 (NLT).
John’s coming to make this announcement was predicted by prophets Malachi in Mal 3:1 and Isaiah in Isa 40:3-5. Especially Isaiah says, “Listen! It is the voice of someone shouting ‘Clear the way through the wilderness for the Lord! Make straight highway through the wasteland for God…’”. For John the Baptist, it was a straight fulfilment of God’s word. However, with regard to Jesus, it seemed to be a Double word action. The Bible predicted John would come to prepare the way for him. It came to pass.
Prayer: Forever Oh Lord, your word is settled. I will trust your word forever. I will pattern my life after the word of God for it is sure to be fulfilled.
