Topic: PROPHETS OF HIS DAY PROPHESIED ABOUT HIM
Text: Luke 2:25-40
Memory Verse: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the gentiles, and glory of your people Israel” Luke.2: 29 – 32
We have tried to look at some of the Old Testament scriptures that spoke about Jesus and which came to pass at his birth. These were written prophecies. We have also highlighted the prophecy by John the Baptist.
Today, we want to see how Jesus’ birth, and the life and ministry he would lead was revealed to others. Two others recorded in our passage today were Simeon, a man in Jerusalem and Anna, a widow of 84 years. These two precious servants of God received word about Jesus that He was to be born. They looked towards the arrival of the Lord Jesus Christ and waited patiently for it. By the act of the Holy Spirit, on the day of Jesus’ dedication in the temple, the two were there to testify that they have seen the promise of God.
Their souls were satisfied and Simeon said, having seen the promises of God fulfilled, he was ready to die. He then went on to tell Mary some of the things that would happen to Jesus – that people would oppose him, but He would be the basis upon which some would fall.
Prayer: Father, I wait in high expectations for the fulfilment of your word in my life.
