FEBRUARY 13: THE FOURTH PERSON

The truth is that, everyone that carries the presence of God is blessed. The greatest blessing a man can receive from the Lord is His presence. One of the blessings that usually accompanies the presence of God in a believer’s life is divine protection and safety.

God’s protection and safety over the three Hebrews boys in our text for today reveals the blessedness of divine presence. In the narrative, we saw how king Nebuchadnezzar threatened the three Hebrew boys with the fiery furnace if they fail to bow to the golden image he made. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego stood firm in their faith and with bold declaration responded to the king, “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king.

But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Daniel 3:16-18.  They stood their ground and were unwavering in their faith even when the consequence of their decision was dreadful and deadly. This made the king to be furious and he commanded that the fire be made seven times hotter. The fire was so hot that the flame killed those that threw the men inside the fire. Surprisingly, when Herod looked into the furnace, he saw four persons instead of three that were thrown into the fire, and said that the appearance of the fourth person was like that of the son of God. It was a wonder.

What a challenge for believers. No fire of life situation can consume any man who carries the abiding presence of God. The easiest way to be overrun by the assault of the enemy is to live a life void of His presence. Any believer who wants to be a blessing and a wonder to his generation must carry the abiding presence of God.
