Topic: “BUILDING INTIMACY WITH GOD THROUGH MEDITATION: PEACE, BE STILL”
Text: Mark 4:35-39
Memory Verse: Mark 4:39 – “Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace be still” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm”.
The great windstorm that arose and the waves beating the boat is a metaphor for the state and condition of the souls of many children of God. They are tempted, tossed about by many winds of adversity, and daily chasing after the winds that they have forgotten completely that the master is in the boat with them.
In the face of life’s challenges and problems, meditation or contemplative reflection helps us to remember that we are not alone; the Lord of the universe who is called Emmanuel is with us.
The word of Jesus, “Peace, be still” is spoken more to the turmoil and unrest in the hearts of the disciples than to the physical storm.
Can you therefore take away your eyes from the intensity of the storm and waves and go down into the stern of the ship of life, to where the Master peacefully lay on a pillow, and allow Him to restore your soul.
PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, help me to rest in the confidence and assurance of your ever-abiding presence as I meditate on your goodness and faithfulness toward me, Amen.
