JANUARY 07: “RELATING WITH GOD’S INSTRUCTION 1”

Yesterday in our reflection time, we appreciated Noah’s commitment to following the instructions of God in full details and learnt how that must have endeared him to the Lord. However, it is important to note that Noah’s alignment with God must have taken him into some deeper levels of knowing God and His ways. For us also to come into that level of obedience to God, we must also have this knowledge of God and of His ways.

First, we must know that God is not a man and His ways are far from natural. Understanding this helps us to take God at His word and not subject His word or ways to our human reasoning or natural laws. Some instructions from God might look crazy and senseless to us. If Noah were to subject God’s plan and the idea of an ark to human thinking, it may have appeared simply ridiculous and unreasonable, leading to a possible modification or outright rejection. However, because he understood the spiritual dimension of God, he took the instruction of God hook, line, and sinker and simply obeyed.

Even the idea of destroying the world by a flood for forty days may not have made sense to the ordinary people of Noah’s day when he began to proclaim to them what was coming. They may even have made fun of him or considered him as being deluded by old age, but Noah would not join issues with them since he knew what they did not. See Isa 55:8-9; Luke 5:5; Rom 11:33; 1 Cor 1:18; 2:14. Sometimes, the instructions of God may appear too simplistic in your eyes and you may be tempted to undermine them, but doing so would be at your own peril. Alignment with God requires that you simply do as you are instructed and allow Him to perform His word.

PRAYER: Ask God to deepen your knowledge of Him this year so that you may align with Him more readily.
