Topic: “TRUSTING THROUGH TEST“
Text: Genesis 22:1–14
Memory Verse: “Then God said, ‘Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” Genesis 22: 2
The journey of faith, as seen in the life of Abraham, is often full of ups and downs. We come to another aspect of the life of Abraham, where God tested his faith in Him.
In our text for today, we now see the very God who had given Abraham his son, Isaac, was about to tell him to do something quite unthinkable: to sacrifice him as a burnt offering to the Lord. In Gen. 22: 2 it says, “And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou love, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.”
God placed a demand on something that was very dear to the heart of Abraham. The lesson here is that our faith must be a faith that makes Him fully Lord of our lives. God must be made Lord of all, or else He will not be Lord at all. Dearly beloved, if the Lord should require you to give up something very precious to you for His sake, would you submit obediently to Him? Or would you withdraw and go away sorrowful like the rich young ruler in Matt 19:18-22?
As we step out today, remember that our faith benefits by being tested, proven and refined through crises. The test that Abraham went through was designed to prove Abraham’s love and devotion to God. Remember that true alignment is tested by sacrifice.
PRAYER: Our Father, we thank you for loving us enough to give us your best, help us to always give our best too when you so demand it of us. Help us so that our faith will be refined as we follow you in obedience in Jesus’ name, Amen.
