Topic: “INTIMACY WITH GOD A MATTER OF TRUST 1”
Text: Genesis 2: 9,16-17
Memory Verse: “The Lord God commanded the man; you are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil…” Gen 2:16-17a.
From the narrative of the creation of man, we can see how God loved the man so much as to invest His nature in him, making him a miniature of Himself on earth. This was because the man was to be God’s representative and superintendent over all that God had created. He gave the man authority to have dominion over all that was on the ground, beneath the ground, and in the sky, Gen 1:28. That was a huge trust. It was so much that God even trusted the man with naming the living creatures like the animals and the birds which He had created and whatever the man called any of them that was its name, see Gen 2:19.
Beyond just the created order, God also trusted the man with His word. He spoke to him instructing him on what His pleasure was and what would displease Him. Surely God expected the man to honour and abide by His word because the Lord had put in him capacity to do so. So long as he kept God’s word, he enjoyed intimacy with Him, but when he did otherwise, he lost it.
Do you know that God still trusts you with His word because of Jesus? The presence of Jesus in your life has made it possible for you to keep that trust if you would rightly appropriate it. God expects you to be faithful with every trust He has given to you, 1 Cor 4:2. If you faithfully honour, and abide by the word of God, you will surely enjoy intimacy with Him.
PRAYER: Lord, I thank you for the huge trust you have given to me. Please help me to keep it to the end in Jesus’ name, Amen.
