Topic: “FEATURES/CHARACTERISTICS OF GODLY INTIMACY: SACRIFICIAL GIVING”
Text: Mark 12:43-44
Memory Verse: “She, out of her poverty, put in everything – all she had to live on. Mark 12:44b“
Godly intimacy expresses itself in sacrificial giving – not out of abundance, but out of love. Jesus praised a widow who gave all she had, not because of the amount, but because of the heart behind it.
Some few decades ago, while unpacking our wedding gifts, we saw a pack of candles from an aunty. My mother-in-law was very critical of the gift and wondered how someone could give such. But my wife and I knew the aunty and we were aware that things were difficult for her. We knew her gift was from the little she possessed, and we valued it. As God would have it, that night there was a general power failure. It was those candles that blessed us throughout the whole night with light to move around!
When we give sacrificially, we show deep intimacy with one another and with Christ and His body. Such acts touch lives and deposits for us, treasures in heaven. We should give not just materially but with our hearts. It is through such acts of obedience that the selfless nature of Christ becomes evident in us.
Practice It: Consider one thing of personal value you can give up this month to meet a kingdom need. While doing this, remember Davids’s word in 2 Sam 24:24.
PRAYER: O Lord, teach me to give not just from my abundance but from a heart willing to sacrifice for Your glory. Help me to offer my time, resources, and life in devotion to You, so that my giving may reflect the depth of Your love for me, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
