Topic: THE WIND AND THE SEA OBEY HIM I

Text: MARK 4:35-41

Memory Verse: Mark 4:39- “And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. ESV

The disciples had an amazing experience while travelling with Jesus after a missionary endeavour that left them startled and got them thinking. They perhaps had never seen that version of their Master whom they had followed closely before then. Jesus spoke to an inanimate wind and sea, and both responded just as He commanded. It was an authority demonstrated by the King of Creation at another level.

Speaking to people and commanding evil spirits were normal experiences witnessed by the disciples under the ministry of Jesus, but demonstrating His authority over nature took them by surprise and left them wondering. God has authority over all that He has created, whether animate or inanimate. If the inanimate things could respond to the voice of their Creator, then there is nothing that is beyond Him! He has control over any situation, in any place, under whatever circumstance and at any time. He is the Unlimited One who will stop at nothing to restore or correct any error in any life or anything. The wind was an incursion to the naturally settled sea on which the disciples and Jesus were travelling, causing a disturbance and Jesus rebuked “the wind” and spoke to the sea to return to its natural state of calmness.

We as God’s children have been given the authority to speak to creations and situations in His name and they must obey us. Jesus said, “If you have faith, you would say to this mountain, “be moved” and it would respond” (emphasis mine). We are not powerless over disturbing situations of life; all we need is to use the authority of the Creator to correct them. Therefore, awake and rebuke ‘that wind’ and speak to that troubled sea to be still!

PRAYER: Father, I arise today and rebuke every evil wind disturbing my peace and progress in Jesus mighty name.
