Topic: “FEATURES/CHARACTERISTICS OF GODLY INTIMACY: WALKING IN HUMILITY AND GRACE“
Text: Ephesians 4:1-3
Memory Verse: “Be completely humble and gentle. Ephesians 4:2a
If we want intimacy to grow among us, then we must allow humility to be our watchword. When we approach others gently, without a feeling of superiority in our hearts, we create space for genuine fellowship. Humility is not thinking less-of-ourselves, but thinking of ourselves-less.
One day, there was a heated Bible study discussion and Bro Chidi was noted as usual as wanting to show more of his scriptural knowledge, than having an “iron sharpens iron” session. Nobody voiced this observation. It therefore surprised everyone during the next session, when Bro Chidi came with a handwritten note and a soft apology saying, “I realized I cared more about being right than showing consideration for others in the last study. I am sorry”. His humility touched the whole group. That moment changed people’s acceptance and attitude towards his contributions.
Grace and humility are bridges to peace in relationships. They invite openness and extinguish tension. Walking in humility and grace makes deep, authentic relationships possible within the body of Christ (Col 3:12-13). It allows others to be seen, heard, and valued without fear of judgment. When we lower ourselves in love, we lift up others in strength. Grace allows us to forgive, correct gently and grow together. It is only under such atmosphere that God is felt and glorified.
Practice It: Choose grace over pride today. Apologize where needed. Serve where unnoticed. If not already started, let humility guide your thoughts and steps from NOW.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, teach me to walk with a gentle heart, putting others before myself as You did. Help me to respond with kindness, even when I feel wronged or misunderstood. May my life reflect Your humility and extend Your grace to those around me, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
