Topic: “INTIMACY WITH GOD“
Text: Psalms 63:1-8
Memory Verse: “James 4:8 – “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
Intimacy with someone is knowing that person and being known by that person. In an intimate relationship, it is expected that there will be no boundaries. There is vulnerability, freedom of interaction, freedom of expression, albeit with mutual understanding, honor and respect in an intimate relationship. God wants this type of relationship with us and so He went to the extent of initiating it, making His Son Jesus the bridge that closed the gap between Him and us. God’s vulnerability is not a sign of weakness but the demonstration of His love and commitment to us when He had His only begotten Son hung on the Cross in our place.
God is constant. He never shifts in His commitment to an intimate relationship with us. We also need to remain in the place of intimacy with Him. In order to enjoy intimacy with Him, we need to accept His offer of that relationship. This is first, to accept His Son Jesus as Lord and Saviour and second, to live a sinless life thereafter. If you have not already done so, this is the time to invite Jesus into your life because without taking this step first, you cannot be in an intimate relationship with God. This is the way to draw near to Him that He may draw near to you (James 4:8).
The extent of intimacy with God is the extent of nearness to Him. Nearness to Him is abiding in Him and He in us. What can prevent this is sin. I John 3:6 says, “Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.” If you once had an intimate relationship with God but have drifted away, God says in Zechariah 1:3, “……. Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts.” He is willing and waiting to renew His intimacy with you.
PRAYER: Father, I desire to have an intimate relationship with You In Your mercy, remove from me, any sin that may prevent this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
