Topic: Benefits of God’s Presence – GODLY WISDOM
Text: Reading: Proverbs 2: 6-9
Memory Verse: “For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6 NIV
Wisdom is a benefit that comes out of a relationship with God, and spending time in the presence of God gives us wisdom. Most people do not understand the difference between wisdom and knowledge. Wisdom is not knowledge; wisdom is the ability to use knowledge.
There are two classes of wisdom according to the Bible which are:
Earthly Wisdom, which appeals to the senses and the emotions. It always says follow one’s heart. “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, “He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness”; (1 Corinthians 3:19)
Godly Wisdom – the wisdom from above. This kind of wisdom helps us strive to see life from God’s perspective and act accordingly. “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” (James 3:17)
How do we get wisdom? James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” For this scripture to be fulfilled in our lives, we have to learn to be in God’s presence, seeking Him and aiming to live wisely and be filled with His truth. Asking for wisdom from God made King Solomon very wise in his lifetime. In 1 Kings 3:7-9, he sought the face of God and God granted him wisdom beyond what anyone had ever had before. Beyond this wisdom, God also granted Solomon riches and fame.
Think about your life and what you consider important. Is it the treasure of this world, or is it having godly wisdom so that you can live a victorious life here on Earth?
Prayer: My dear Father in Heaven, grant me wisdom to excel in all I engage in life through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
