TOPIC: “FAMILY ENVY”
TEXT: Genesis 37:1-11
MEMORY VERSE: “His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind” – Genesis 37:11.
Envy can exist even within families. Joseph’s brothers allowed jealousy to grow because of the favour and dreams upon his life. Instead of encouraging him, they became bitter toward him. What began as irritation eventually became hatred.
Family envy happens when comparison replaces love. One sibling’s progress, opportunity, or recognition becomes another sibling’s frustration. This spirit destroys unity and creates unnecessary division.
Joseph did not create his destiny—God did. The brothers were fighting what God had already ordained. Sometimes people become uncomfortable with the grace on your life, but you must never allow their jealousy to make you shrink yourself.
At the same time, Joseph’s story teaches us wisdom and humility. Not every dream should be shared carelessly. God may reveal things to you privately before publicly manifesting them.
Envy within families can lead to deep wounds, but God’s purpose cannot be stopped by human jealousy. Joseph was betrayed, yet God still fulfilled His promise.
Today, choose love over comparison. Celebrate the uniqueness of every family member. God has enough grace, favour and purpose for everyone.
PRAYER: Lord, heal every trace of jealousy and competition within families. Teach us to walk in love, unity and honour toward one another. Help me to trust Your plan for my life without comparing myself to others, Amen.
