Topic: BEARING GOD’S PRESENCE – RIGHTEOUSNESS OBEDIENCE BY CHOICE”

Text: Joshua 24:15, John 14:23, Romans 6:16
Memory Verse: “Deuteronomy 11:26-28 (NIV): “See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse – the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today.…”

The child of God is called to a life of obedience, not only when it is convenient, but most especially in those times of great inconvenience and even turmoil. The account of Joseph is a prime example of such obedience. The life of Joseph in slavery must have been tough. Close your eyes and imagine yourself as a young man, uprooted and sold out by your siblings into slavery, into a life of hardship and forced servitude. Only the Lord knows what each of us would do in such a circumstance. Yet no record of crime is recorded against Joseph.

The life of hardship must not be an occasion for the child of God to commit sin; instead, it must become an opportunity to remain resolute on what the word of God says.

Another example of obedient faith could be noted in David, as he lived a life of a fugitive, running and hiding for his life from King Saul. Opportunities came when humanly speaking he could have been justified to not just take King Saul’s life but also his throne and power, but listen to his words “…and I said, I will not stretch out my hand against my lord for he is the Lord’s anointed”.

Here, David makes the word of God a pillar of relevance especially in our time. How? He reminds us that our decisions must be in the light of God’s word and most importantly, in the fear of God. These acts of obedience to God’s word, is righteous in the eyes of our Father.
Be joyously dedicated to obeying God’s word. God is pleased when his children are obedient to his command.

PRAYER: Righteous and Heavenly Father, I choose you this day and forever. Help to make my actions match my declaration. May my actions from this day onward please you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
