Topic: THE MEEK MAN
Text: DEUTERONOMY 34:1-8
Memory Verse: “So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord”. Deuteronomy 34:5-6
Moses was the son of Amram and Jochebed (Exodus 6:20). He was adopted by an Egyptian princess, the daughter of Pharaoh. Though of Israelite origin, he was brought up in the educational system of the Egyptians. An offence committed forced him out to Midian, where he married a Midianite woman. Moses had an encounter with God in the incidence of a burning bush. It was during the burning bush that God commissioned Moses to go to Egypt, to lead the Israelites out of Egypt to the promise land. This was his moment of redemption so to say.
Moses really served the Lord to the best of his ability. He led the Israelites out of Egypt after many miracles and plagues were performed, crossing of the Red Sea, the delivery of the Ten Commandments, establishment of the covenant at Sinai, provision of water, manna etc. All these, God did through Moses. The dominant trait of Moses was his perseverance. Moses was simply the man God used to find Israel and no lesser designation does justice to the place he occupied.
Moses was so intimate with God to the extent of speaking face to face with Him. (Exodus 33:11). He was described as meek more than all men that were on the face of the earth. (Number 12:3). Nevertheless, the Lord was annoyed with Moses because of disobedience. God then declared that Moses would not lead the children of Israel to the Promised Land. (Number 20:12). He appointed Joshua as his successor as directed by God. He blessed the children of Israel. (Deut 33). Finally, his ministry came to an end on mount Nebo where he died in the land of Moab. He was seen along Elijah at the transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ, this confirms that Moses had victory over death. (Matthew 17:3)
PRAYER: Thank you dear Jesus for Moses, for his meekness and spirit of perseverance. Grant me the gift of meekness and perseverance so that I can draw men unto you, in Jesus’ name. Amen
