Topic: “The Power of Christ’s death giving us direct access to the Father ”
Text: Luke 23:44-49
Memory Verse: Luke 23:45 – “And the sun was darkened and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst”.
Apart from the Luke’s account, Mark’s account of the death of Jesus is also recorded in the Gospel according to St Mark, Chapter 15, verses 37 and 38, “And Jesus cried with a loud voice and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom”. This signifies direct access to the throne of grace without the help of any priest. This was made possible through the death of Jesus on the cross and the shedding of His blood.
Hitherto for a worshipper to worship God, he had to go through the priests. The structure of the Sanctuary in Biblical times was such that there was an outer court, an inner court, the temple leading to the most holy place called the Holy of Holies where the Ark of God was placed. It was only the priests that could go into the place. When Jesus died as recorded in the gospels, the veil of the temple leading to the Holy of Holies was torn into two from top to bottom. This now made it possible for worshippers to approach God directly.
Today, a lot of churches are all over the place with different doctrines and beliefs. Some still believe today that it is only through their priests that they can get to God.
The death of Jesus and the subsequent tearing of the veil of the Temple has since changed that scenario and has made it possible for us to approach our God directly. Through His death, we are made to sit in heavenly places with Jesus, so we do not need the blood of bullocks and sheep again for us to have access to the throne of Grace. Hebrew 10:19-20 tells us that “having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which he hath consecrated for us through the veil that is to say His flesh”.
Beloved the death of Jesus has made provision for you to approach the throne of Grace with boldness. Feel free to approach it today. You do not need the help of any priest. You are yourself a priest by the blood of the everlasting covenant.
PRAYER: Father, please give me the boldness to approach your throne of Grace with confidence today and have mercy upon me, Amen.
