Topic: “The power of Christ’s death in our salvation ”
Text: Romans 6:21-23
Memory Verse: “Roman 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”.
To save someone means to keep safe from death, harm or loss. Salvation means the act of saving from the power of evil, harm or death. When man sinned against God in the garden of Eden through disobedience, God pronounced the punishment of death on man. Genesis 3:19 “in the sweat of thy face shall thou eat bread, till thou return to the ground: for out of it was thou taken: for dust thou art and unto dust shall thou return”. The human race was condemned to death by God both physical death and spiritual death. Spiritual death meant separation from God and therefore eternal death.
In the Old Testament, people sought forgiveness of sin from God by offering sacrifices of bulls, sheep etc. They shed the blood of animals on altars to atone for their sins. However, Jesus came to the world to save us from these rituals by shedding His blood on the cross of Calvary as a once and for all atonement for our sins. By His death, he saved us from the punishment due to us by our sins.
It is only Him and Him crucified that makes it possible for us to receive salvation. Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Beloved can you reflect on your relationship with your Saviour Jesus Christ? Are you appreciative of His death on the cross of Calvary or will the blood He shed be in vain concerning you?
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I pray this morning that you will give me the grace to appreciate your death and the blood you shed for my salvation, Amen.
