Topic: “The power of Christ’s death in our Justification ”
Text: Romans 5:1-10
Memory Verse: “ Romans 5:9 – “Much more then, being justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through him”.
Justification is defined by the Zondervan’s New international Bible Dictionary as an act of God by which on the basis of Christ’s meritorious work on the cross of Calvary imputed to the sinner and received through faith, God declares the sinner absolved from sin and released from its penalty and is restored as righteous.
Justification simply means that God is placing us in a right relationship with Him.
We were hitherto in an estranged relationship with Him because of our sins. Sin irritates God, He cannot behold sin. That was why when all of our sins were put upon Jesus on the cross of Calvary, God could not look at Him. He therefore cried out to his father. Father, father why has thou forsaken me?
It took the death of Jesus on the cross of calvary to justify us before God and therefore restore our relationship with the father. The punishment that we were meant to receive was put away from us. We are no longer condemned to eternal death, but we have eternal life through the death of Jesus on the cross of calvary. Christ by this death has fulfilled the law on our behalf and we are no longer under the law but under grace.
We are justified and therefore can stand in the presence of God the father and call Him Abba father. We have a new legal standing before the father.
The grounds on which Justification rests is the redeeming work of Christ’s death. The only part that we have to play is the belief in this death and the confession that Jesus’ death has justified us before His father.
The question to you this morning is that where do you stand with Christ? Do you believe in your Justification through the power of his death? Why not thank Him this morning for going to the cross for you?
PRAYER: I thank you for your death and the blood you shed on the cross of Calvary. I pray that your death will not be in vain concerning me, Amen.
