Topic: We Are God’s Friends through Redemption
Text: John 15:1-17
Memory Verse: “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what is master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you” – John 15:15.
Redemption through Jesus Christ changes our status from being enemies of God to becoming His friends. This transformation is exemplified throughout the Bible.
In the Old Testament, figures such as Abraham exemplify individuals who found favor with God, earning them the title of “God’s friend.” Abraham’s unwavering faith and obedience demonstrated his close relationship with God.
In the New Testament, Jesus further emphasizes this concept of friendship with God. He tells His disciples in John 15:15 that they are no longer merely servants but friends, indicating a deep and intimate connection with God.
The pivotal moment of redemption occurs through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross. Romans 5:10 underscores how this act reconciles us to God, turning us from His enemies into His friends. Through Christ’s atonement, we are restored to a close relationship with God.
Additionally, 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 highlights how this reconciliation extends beyond ourselves; we are given the ministry of reconciliation, tasked with sharing the message of redemption with others.
Redemption through Jesus Christ changes our standing with God, making us His friends instead of His enemies. This transformation is seen throughout Scripture and invites us into a close, personal relationship with God, as well as a mission to spread His message of reconciliation.
