Topic: “ The power of Christ’s death in our health ”
Text: 2 Exodus 23:25-27
Memory Verse: 3 John 2- “Beloved I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health even as thy soul prospereth”.
The term health refers to a state of physical, mental and social well-being of an individual and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Yes we can talk of healing from an illness or a disease. However, when we talk about health it encompasses more than physical well-being. God in His infinite mercy has made provision for us to live in divine health, which is a holistic type of health that covers every aspect of man’s existence i.e. physical, mental, social, intellectual and spiritual dimensions. He made a covenant with the people of Israel in today’s passage. He said to the people of Israel that He would take away sicknesses from their midst. Hence, if sicknesses are removed what is left is good health.
The promise of God in Exodus 23:25 has four dimensions
(a) “You shall serve the Lord your God”, hence service to the Lord is a condition for fulfilment of this promise
(b) He shall bless your bread, which means prosperity.
(c) He shall bless your water.
(d) He shall take away sickness from thee.
The only role that was required of the Israelites was to serve God and not any other god. When this is done, our merciful God has a duty to make believers healthy in all ramifications and to remain so.
So this arrangement can be seen as a covenant. Do this for me and I will do this for you. God has fulfilled this covenant in the lives of a lot of believers today. We have had testimonies of a number of believers who have never been sick before and who have lived a very healthy life in all ramifications.
It is the blood of Jesus and His death that has made it possible for believers today to enjoy the provisions of this covenant. We only need to come to Jesus in total surrender and faith and fulfil our own side of the covenant.
PRAYER: Father Lord, I come to you in total faith. As you removed all sicknesses from the Israelites in the wilderness, I pray that you will let the blood of your son Jesus Christ avail for me and heal me of all my sicknesses and diseases, Amen.
