MARCH 11: SERVICE VERSUS FELLOWSHIP

DATE: Wednesday, 11 March 2026
TOPIC: “SERVICE VERSUS FELLOWSHIP
TEXT: Luke 10:38-42
MEMORY VERSE:  “But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken from her” – Luke 10:34 (KJV).

People have different ways of expressing love which is referred to as love language. There are two characters in the text under consideration Mary and Martha. The two reflect the two types of Christians we have and how they express their love for Christ. Both of them love Jesus and they have different ways of expressing their love for him. For Martha, her way of expressing her love for Jesus was meeting His physical needs. She wanted to prepare a sumptuous and delicious meal for Jesus. She wanted to give Him a special treat because Jesus meant a lot to her. She was so concerned that Jesus should be properly served and taken care of.

On the other hand, Mary would rather sit at Jesus’ feet, enjoy His gist and warm fellowship than spend time making meals for Him not because she did not care, but giving Jesus all her attention was her priority. The response of Jesus to Martha explains His preference and what He expects from His disciples. Jesus used this opportunity to explain to us that walking in alignment with God means prioritizing fellowship with Him over service. He did not condemn service, He only said fellowship is better.

Most Christians are guilty of what Jesus accused Martha of; we are so meticulous and particular about serving God that we even plan Him out of our service. Anyone that is ready to walk in alignment with God must adhere to these instructions and make fellowship with God a priority or else, such individuals will not be able to receive and enjoy the fullness of His presence and the blessing that is attached to it. God wants us to give Him full attention; He is more interested in the attention that we give Him than the service. As a matter of fact, when we spend time in fellowship with Him, we will understand His mind and how to serve Him better. Know God’s love language and enjoy His presence.

PRAYER: Father, help me to prioritize my fellowship with you, so that I can enjoy the fullness of your presence and blessings in Jesus’ name, Amen.
