TOPIC: “YIELDING TO GOD’S PLAN IN OUR LIVES”
TEXT: Acts 9:1-6
MEMORY VERSE: “And he, trembling and astonished, said Lord, what will you have me to do? And the Lord said to him, arise, and go into the city, and it will be told you what you must do?” – Acts 9:6.
Prior to his encounter with Jesus Christ as recorded in today’s devotional passage, Apostle Paul, known then as Saul, was a devout Pharisee who zealously persecuted the early Christian church. He was born in Tarsus, Cilicia, and raised in Jerusalem as a Pharisee (Acts 22:3; Philippians 3:5). He studied under Gamaliel, a great Rabbi, and became a skilled interpreter of Jewish law (Acts 22:3). However, not knowing God’s plan for his life led him to fiercely oppose the Christian movement, seeing it as a threat to Judaism. He participated in the stoning of Stephen in Acts 7 and sought to arrest and imprison Christians. His zeal for Jewish tradition made him to believe he was serving God by eliminating what he perceived as heresy.
As recorded in Acts 9:1-30, he encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus and was radically transformed. This experience changed him from a zealous persecutor to a passionate apostle, dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Notice that God’s plan for Paul was to preach the gospel, and not to persecute the preachers of the gospel. The reason he was persecuting the church was because he was on the wrong lane of life where he was completely unaware of God’s plan for his life. However, having yielded his life to God’s plan after his encounter with Christ, he became one of the most influential figures in Christian history.
Beloved, if only you can yield your life to God’s plan and purpose, turn back from the wrong path of life and walk in alignment with God, your life will be amazingly changed. You can give it a try today.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me and lead me to the right path of life. Help me to yield totally your purpose and plan in Jesus’ name, Amen!
