TOPIC: “SHARING THE GOOD NEWS”
TEXT: 1 Corinthians 9:15-23
MEMORY VERSE: “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast about, for necessity presses on me. Yes, woe is me, if I do not preach the gospel” – I Cor. 9:17.
In today’s devotional passage, one could see through the words of Apostle Paul his heart burning with a passion to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. He honestly explains that he had become all things to all people in order to save some. His motivation as we read in the passage wasn’t personal gain or recognition but the desire to reach people of Christ.
Notice that Paul’s approach to reaching out to people was flexible and contextual. He adapted to different audiences and situations in order to effectively communicate the gospel. He became like the Jews to win the Jews, like those under the law to win those under the law, and like those outside the law to win those outside the law (1 Cor. 9:20-21).
As believers in Christ, we are called to share with or preach the gospel to others. Like Paul, we must be passionate about reaching people with the gospel for Christ and be willing to adapt our approach to effectively communicate the gospel. Understand that adapting to different audiences and situations does not mean joining the sinners to commit sin in a bid to win them for Christ. No! This approach is completely out of the context of evangelism. To adapt here could mean learning about different cultures, learning and speaking peoples’ languages, understanding the needs and concerns of those we are ministering to, and being willing to step out of our comfort zones in order to reach our targeted audiences.
Beloved, what motivates you to share the gospel with others? What steps can you take like Paul who became all things to all people?
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, please release the passion for evangelism in my heart and make me willing to be all things to all people so as to win them for Christ in Jesus’ name, Amen.
