TOPIC: “LIVING A LIFE OF PURPOSE”
TEXT: Ephesians 3:1-7
MEMORY VERSE: “For this reason, I, Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, since you have heard of the administration of the grace of God which is given to me for you” – Eph. 3:1-2.
One of the greatest teachers of the word of God that the world ever heard of, Dr. Myles Munroe of blessed memory once said that “The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but a life that never realized its full purpose.” This statement is very profound and simply suggests that a dead person who had his or her purpose fulfilled is better than a person who is alive but does not know his/her purpose. Munroe added “For without purpose, life has no heart.”
Apostle Paul’s life was marked by a deep sense of purpose. In our devotional passage for today, with reference to verses 1 and 2, Paul explained that he was given the ministry of proclaiming the mystery of Christ to the Gentiles, thus, “For this reason, I, Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, since you have heard of the administration of the grace of God which is given to me for you”. This suggests that he absolutely understood that his purpose, the reason for his call was to steward the grace of God and to make known God’s plan of salvation to those who were far off – the Gentiles.
Beloved, as a believer, you were called by God to live a life of purpose. Your purpose as a believer is deeply rooted in God’s plan and design for your life. When you understand your identity in Christ and the gifts and talents He has given you, then you can live with clarity and direction. Apostle Paul was completely sold out to his call to the Gentiles because he knew it was what God ordained for his life right from his mother’s womb. God’s purpose is the key to our fulfilment in life.
