MARCH  27, 2025

Topic: “Intimacy through Thanksgiving”

Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:12-22

Memory Verse: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Thanksgiving is more than just a moment of gratitude – it is a powerful way to cultivate intimacy with God. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Paul encourages us to give thanks in all circumstances, not just for the good things, but in every situation. This practice of thanksgiving helps us focus on God’s faithfulness, no matter what we face. Apostle Paul, in rounding off the book of 2 Thessalonians, took the time to give specific instructions to the people. He encouraged them to strive to do what is good to each other, to rejoice always, to pray without ceasing, not to quench the Holy Spirit or treat prophesy with contempt, to hold on to what is good and reject every kind of evil. At the centre of all of these is the call for thanksgiving – “Giving thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of God…”

When we give thanks, we acknowledge God’s sovereignty and goodness in our lives. It is an act of worship that invites His presence into our hearts and circumstances. Thankfulness opens the door to deeper intimacy with God because it reminds us of His constant care, provision, and love of our Father.

Gratitude in all circumstances does not always come easily, especially during difficult times. However, choosing to thank God, even when things are hard, strengthens our relationship with Him. It is a way of surrendering our hearts and trusting that He is always good, no matter what we may experience. If you look carefully, there is always a reason to be thankful. Above all, so long as there is life, there is hope (Ecclesiastes 9:4).

It is the will of the Father for us to be always thankful. What are you thankful for today? Take a moment to reflect on God’s blessings, both big and small, and express your thanks in worship. The hymn writer says we should “count our blessings, name them one by one, count your many blessings see what God has done”. Let your gratitude draw you closer to Him and deepen your intimacy with Him.

Make a list of things you are thankful for today and spend time thanking God for each one. Let your gratitude overflow into worship, acknowledging His goodness in every circumstance.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for Your constant goodness and faithfulness. I choose to give thanks in all circumstances, trusting that You are always with me. Help me to cultivate a heart of gratitude that brings me closer to You, Amen.
