Topic: “Worship through Obedience”
Text: John 14:15-21
Memory Verse: “If you love me, keep my commands.” – John 14:15
Obedience is one of the clearest expressions of our love and worship toward God. In John 14:15, Jesus reminds us that our obedience is a direct reflection of our love for Him. Worship is not just about singing songs or offering prayers – it is about living in alignment with God’s will, following His commands, and surrendering our lives to His purposes.
When we obey God, we demonstrate trust in His wisdom and sovereignty. Our obedience is an act of worship that says, “I believe Your ways are better than my own, and I choose to follow You.” This act of surrender deepens our intimacy with God because it shows that we value His guidance above all else.
Sometimes, God calls us to obedience in ways that challenge our comfort zones. Whether it is forgiving someone, giving generously, or stepping out in faith, our obedience is a powerful form of worship. It is a way of saying, “I honour You, God, and I trust You with my life.” In I Samuel 15, the bible tells us how God gave an instruction to King Saul through his servant Samuel, to destroy the Amalekites completely because of what they did to the Israelites on their way from Egypt. Saul went out to carry out the assignment, but he did not destroy the Amalekites completely as instructed. In verse 22 Samuel, replied Saul “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying God? To obey is better than sacrifice…” This – was where Saul lost his throne before the Most High God. Yes, bringing your sacrifice before the Lord is very good, but it becomes a problem if it is not in line with obeying God’s word.
What act of obedience is God calling you to as part of your worship? Reflect on how you can demonstrate your love for God through your actions and choices today. Ask God to reveal any areas where He is calling you to obey. Commit to taking that step in obedience as an act of worship.
PRAYER: Lord, I love You, and I want to obey Your commands. Show me where I need to align my life with Your will, and give me the strength to walk in obedience. May my obedience be a reflection of my love for You, Amen.
