TOPIC: “THE COST OF MORAL WEAKNESS”
TEXT: Judges 16:1-21
MEMORY VERSE: “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers” – Psalms1:1.
A saying goes that ‘once is a mistake, twice a choice, thrice a habit and four times, is character. This was the case with Samson in today’s Bible reading. He was a child dedicated to God from the womb, with specific instructions on how to live his life. However, as a man, he deviated from all these instructions and went about his life carelessly. He had no self-control over his sexual appetite and this brought about his downfall. Any desire or choice not aligned with the will of God will bring about destruction for a believer. A desire without self-control is a disaster.
Self-control is a fruit of the spirit that helps a believer to put the flesh under subjection. A life without this fruit of the spirit cannot align to the will of God and subsequently, cannot please God. 1 Corinthians 10:23 “I have the right to do anything” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. Self-control helps to choose what is beneficial and constructive.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Jesus, please help me to yield to your leading all the time so that I do not fulfill the lust of the flesh, Amen.
