Topic: HONOURING GOD IN THANKSGIVING

Text: Psalms 100

Memory Verse: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him, bless Him!” Psalms 100:4

The act of thanksgiving cuts across culture, religion and people all over the world. It is an act of showing appreciation or gratitude to someone for some good done. In the secular world, people are honoured and praised according to worldly standards. However, for God’s people, it is not so.

Although, people are recognised and honoured for any good done, ultimately, God is thanked for using such individuals. No man does any good on his own without the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

People organize thanksgiving services to boost their personal ego, God’s people also do, but the primary motive is to honour God in thanksgiving. “This people honour me with their lips, but their heart is far from me” (Mark 7:6), Isaiah 42:8, says, “I am the Lord, that is my name; my glory I give to no other nor praise to graven images,” God and God alone should be the centre of our thanksgiving. The Lord’s attributes of love, goodness, mercy and faithfulness must be recognized by His people at all times. Everything points to God and this should be the motive of our thanksgiving.

Honouring God in thanksgiving is an everyday business because God never stops His goodness is our lives. As we enter the month of Thanksgiving, let us prepare ourselves to sincerely appreciate Him for who He is and for who He will continue to be in our lives. Paul encourages us to, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1Thess. 5: 18).

Prayer: Heavenly father, I am grateful because your thought towards me is always for good. May my life honour you in thanksgiving in Jesus’ name, Amen.
