Topic: “HOW TO BE GRATEFUL – COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS”
Text: PSALM 136:1-9
Memory Verse: “O give thanks to the Lord of lords: For his mercy endureth forever” – Psalm 146:3.
Chorus: Count your blessings, name them one by one; Count your blessings, see what God hath done; count your blessings, name them one by one; Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
There is a popular saying that “if you can think, then you can thank”. This is so true. When you come across an ungrateful person, chances are that such persons have just overlooked areas of their lives that have received God’s mercies, and they are focusing on what they currently lack. This is why it is important to take record of what God is doing in our lives either directly or through others.
It may be human to focus on current challenges or lack, but journaling helps us to recognize the other help we have received from the Lord and to be grateful for such, while trusting Him for other miracles in our lives. Write down 3-5 things you are grateful for every day. This will shift your focus from an entitlement mentality to appreciation for God’s mercies.
Do you record answers to your prayers or favors you received from God in a notebook? If not, you can start to do so today. While a physical notebook or journal is good, there are also electronic formats that can help capture such records. Either way, use a platform that you are comfortable with, but make sure you list important breakthroughs or miracles in a journal and remember to thank God for them.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to count my blessings and give thanks to God, as I trust Him for more miracles.
