Topic: “GOD’S LOVE FOR JACOB”
Text: GENESIS 25:21-23
Memory Verse: Genesis 28:13 – “There above it stood the Lord, and he said: ‘I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac… I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you”.
God’s love is never a reward for what we do; it is His generous and unconditional self-giving nature to His creation. God’s love is a gift to all of us. Romans 9:10-13 says, “…but when Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac (for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls), it was said to her, ‘The older shall serve the younger.’ As it is written, ‘Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.’” The case of Esau and Jacob seems to be one of the most difficult nuts to crack in the Bible, but the simple lesson is for us to be grateful for the unmerited love of God that we enjoy.
Despite all the human games that Jacob played, God’s promise to Jacob in a dream is a powerful assurance of His presence and love. Despite Jacob’s flaws, God reaffirmed His covenant and promised to be with him. While we must strive for holiness and perfection, this encounter shows that God’s love is not based on our perfection but on His faithfulness and grace.
Therefore, our lives of holiness must be in gratitude and in response to God who has chosen to love. God’s loving presence abides with us always and He seeks to perfect His plans for our lives. PRAYER: Faithful God, thank You for Your promises and Your constant presence in my life. Help me to trust in Your love, knowing that You will never leave me. May I always remember that Your grace is sufficient for me in Jesus’ name, Amen.
