OCTOBER 07: “GOD’S PROMISE FULFILLED”

Topic:  “GOD’S PROMISE FULFILLED

Text: GENESIS 21:1-7

Memory Verse: Genesis 21:1 – “And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken.”

Many times, walking with God is a long endurance trek with many hurdles on the way to jump over and many bends to navigate. Abraham and Sarah’s 25 years of long walk to parenthood was far from being perfect, but the love of God sustained them. When God makes a promise, He is resolute in ensuring it comes to fulfillment.

In-between the promise-proclaimed and promise-fulfilled, Abraham and Sarah made many wrong moves like going to wrong places for survival and gambling with their statuses (Genesis 20:1-5). They also attempted to help God fulfil His promise in a carnal way by impregnating Hagar to give birth to Ishmael (Genesis 16), despite all these, God’s love towards them remained steadfast.

Abraham seemed satisfied with Ishmael when God was reiterating His promise in Genesis 17. Genesis 17:17-18 says, “Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, ‘Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?’ And Abraham said to God, ‘Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!’” In Genesis 18:10-18, Sarah also seemed to be tired of this promise, “Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” (Genesis 18:12).

However, the One who promised is never weary and His love is unconditional, so the Bible says “And the Lord visited Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had spoken” (Genesis 21:1). This is a show of God’s love to Sarah. Delay is not denial, the God of promises is the God of performances, and He is able to perform that which He has promised you. Are you getting discouraged over a delayed promise? Are you feeling bad for some past mistakes? God’s love covers past mistakes and converts promises to testimonies, yours is the next!

PRAYER: Father, thank You for Your great and wonderful promises for my life. I believe You are able to do whatever You promise at the right time. Help me to stand firm in faith and overcome every struggle with unbelief in Jesus’ name, Amen.
